Android 11 for Sony Xperia smartphones: When a new Android upgrade is available, such as Android 11, it means two things. Not only can we count on a number of cool, new functions, it is also true that you will have to wait and see when those functions will finally arrive on your own smartphones. Different manufacturers deal with this in different ways. For example, Samsung was known for taking a long time to release updates for its devices, but that has changed in recent months.
Fortunately, the Japanese electronics giant Sony has had a different image for a while. That company usually quickly ensures that owners of its smartphones can easily expect an upgrade when it is available. It is not as fast as if you were to buy a OnePlus, for example (which releases updates almost simultaneously with Google), but that manufacturer does not have to change much about the software. Since Sony does present a modified version of Android, it will take a little longer for those updates to arrive.

Now the company has on its own own blog announced when some Sony Xperia devices can expect the upgrade to Android 11. Unfortunately, not every Xperia device gets the upgrade; but if you own a modern variant, you will automatically receive a message between now and February that an update is ready.
The rollout of the Android 11 upgrade starts with the Sony Xperia 1 II, which we released earlier this year have reviewed. The upgrade should be released this month. That is reason enough to keep an eye on your smartphone in the near future. Did you go for a Sony Xperia 5 II or one at the time Sony Xperia 10 II? Then you will automatically receive the upgrade when the new year and therefore the month of January has arrived. The Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 will then get the update in February.
