The Adidas RPT-02 Sol was developed together with the Swedish solar technology company Exeger. The unique thing about these headphones is the so-called Powerfoyle that is incorporated in the headband. This allows the device to be charged using solar energy. But, luckily you don’t have to be outside all day. The battery can also be charged with artificial light.
The RPT-02 Sol is mainly aimed at the sports enthusiasts among us and comes with a battery that – without recharging – lasts about 80 hours. It is not yet entirely clear how much light you need to be able to listen for an extra hour, but looking at the competition we do get an idea. Last year, a pair of headphones that works with solar energy was already released. The Urbanista Los Angeles gets an extra three hours when he has seen the sun for an hour.
There is an indicator on the headband of the RPT-02 Sol that indicates how strong the light is in the area. In addition, you will find the battery and charging status in the accompanying app. The headphones are IPX4 certified and can therefore be used outside and during workouts without any problems. The device will initially be released in the United Kingdom for a converted price of 237 euros.
